An Orbital piercing is when a single piece of jewellery, usually a ring or horseshoe is worn through two piercings.
Orbital ear piercings are usually performed on the outer ear rim but can be anywhere on the ear where placement will allow. This piecing is normally horizontal and the name is given to the way the jewellery looks as though it is orbiting the ear.
There is no standard size or gauge for this type of piercing so it is important that you measure the distance between the piercings or measure an existing piece of jewellery you know fits.
Healing times can be between 3 and 6 months and many people treat this piercing as two seperate piercings using flat back studs or barbells to speed up the healing process. When both holes are fully healed they then link then using the single piece of jewellery. This helps reduce irritation that can lead to infection or migration.
